Despite the backdrop of a royal harem in a fictional world, the drama exudes positivity throughout, without the tired and exhausting catfights commonly seen in historical palace dramas. "A New Life Begins" depicts a paradise where girls come together to help each other, free themselves, and achieve their goals, knowing the proverb "unity is strength." Most of the characters are lovable despite their flaws, and their growth varies from weak and helpless to strong and brave. The story is both inspiring and comforting.
Focusing on Xinchuan, one of the Nine Kingdoms, and its sixth prince, the family of Yin Zheng (Bai Jingting), the story contrasts each kingdom with its own unique characteristics, characteristics, and culture, with Xinchuan being the leader of a covenant. In order to build closer ties with all the other kingdoms, the king of Xinchuan wants his son to marry noble girls from other kingdoms. He calls on the kingdoms to send their best-qualified girls. Li Wei (Tian Xiwei) is selected and sent to Xinchuan. She is hesitant because Li Wei does not want to marry a man she does not love and wants the monogamous marriage with equal rights practiced by her native kingdom, while Xinchuan still adheres to the traditional polygamy system.
Among all the noble girls, Li Wei seems to be the least favored, as she tries to avoid the wife selection process. However, she is chosen by Yin Zheng, the 6th Prince, as a "side" wife, because Yin Zheng wants to maintain his peace by marrying a woman no one wants. Yin Zheng looks sick, and in order to survive in the dangerous palace world, he blends himself into the background where no one notices. In a seemingly unlikely relationship, Yin Zheng and Li Wei fall in love with each other.
